The mixed bag

Well hello, Thursday!  The temps are predicted to climb into the mid to upper 50's today.  Skies will be overcast, but not much in the way of precipitation.  We got most of that yesterday.  Lots of snow fell and melted, and drizzle, and just rain at times.  Had the temps been colder we'd have had much snow, in the end we got a mixed bag.

I'm having breakfast with my brother this morning.  I'm giving him an old mantel clock that had belonged to our grandparents.  Normally, there would be a lot of value in something that had been hand made over a century ago.  Unfortunately, my parents made the decision to have the clock refinished.  Yeeeee Gads!  What ever value it had was sanded off.  The original wood on the back was replaced with a piece of wall paneling.  Ouch!  It's just taking up space, so I'm giving it to him, maybe in about 4 or 5 hundred years it will be worth something again.

And, speaking of mixed bags... I went to see The Batman last evening, and sat through all 2 hours and 56 minutes.  I had other issues besides the fact that the film was way too long.  Part of the Batman mystique is the conflict between Bruce Wayne and his alter ego.  Out of that film, Bruce Wayne is only in the film for maybe 15 minutes at best.  The movie gets real artsy with lighting in portraying the Dark Knight, so at times color disappears, and sometimes light disappears completely and you're left watching bright flashes of gunfire on a black screen.  Every body talks slowly and there are a lot of long, lingering scenes.  Had they cut out about 45 minutes of moody inaction, this would play much better.  Pattison is sort of okay if you don't mind a lead who is always frowning.  I'm serious when I say The Batman is a mixed bag of disjointed scenes.

So, I saw where Disney finally called DeSantis about the hate law in Florida... a bit too late since DeSantis evidently told them he's going to sign the anti-gay measure into law.  Honestly, I was surprised Disney didn't take a stronger stand.  I guess in the end, like every other corporation, decisions are based on profits and tax breaks.  People don't count.

And I don't know about you, but doesn't DeSantis look more and more like Putin everyday?  Though he might have a little more hair on his head, his actions mimic that Russian turds more than they do those of Trump.  The Florida legislation has just passed some sort of shit resolution to form a police group to monitor elections.  Damn, that's right out of Putin's playbook.  And just think, it's right on time for the November's election.  This is DeSantis way of having Florida secede from the Union.  That idea should make Disney happy.

  1. Oh no!
Pity about the clock. But people forty or fifty years ago did not think their things could become objects worth holding on to.
And I have been wondering about Batman. Maybe I'll stream it.
And Death Santis is so thirsty for that presidency it's almost pathetic. He wants to create an image of power and independence but all he gives is tinfoil dictator.
Disney, as all corporations, only cares about money. Don't ever underestimate the power of the olmighty dollar.

    XOXO

    1. I wouldn't be surprised if DeSantis actually believes he's building a power base from which to invade Georgia and Mississippi 😉😉

  2. I have never been a fan of Batman movies. I guess I just don't like the character. It will be sad to see Florida go, but once it is gone, the government won't have to pay for all that disaster relief when it is underwater.

    1. Of course, being Republicans, they people of Florida have no foresight and as a result, we may have to construct a wall to keep them from immigrating north.

  3. Im a huge Batman fan and love all the other inceptions I've seen this far....but Im not feeling this one...and I got no vibes from that catwoman. She needed some pointers from Michelle Pfeiffer.

    1. Pattison puts Christian Bale's dark and brooding Batman to shame, and they never come out and say that she's Catwoman.

  4. I was lukewarm on The Batman movie anyway but the 3 hour run time is definitely a deal breaker. Plus, I really enjoyed the Christian Bale trilogy. Enjoy the warmer weather.
