I've also been told I have little tact, so if this offends you simply ride on.

Cobbler

And is this a happy Thursday morning, or isn't it?  The temps are comfortably cool outside, (68 F) and the sky is clear.  However, to day is the last of the 'moderate high' days, starting tomorrow the thermometer is going to begin to climb.  Heat is moving in from the west.  I'm so glad for my Central Air.

I did bake a fresh peach cobbler yesterday, and believe me, it is delicious.

There are still quite a few left over, so I'm going to freeze them for later.  If I were my grandma, I'd can them, but I'm not.  She also wore an apron when she cooked.  Do people still wear aprons?

Some friends stopped by last evening, they have a new puppy, a chocolate Labrador who was supposed to be a service dog.  The individual who was supposed to get her, was too elderly, so they ended up with her.  Named her Seneca.  I told them that's her official name, they will end up calling her something else, like Siegfried became Biggie.

Americans didn't make a lot of babies last year.  In fact, the count is the lowest in over a century.  Some of the blame is on Covid, some of it has to do with women just not wanting to have babies till they're older, but mostly, at least this is what I think, is the cost of raising a child is exorbitant.  American Capitalism, you know.  It's all about the bucks. Prices keep going up because everybody 'needs' to increase revenue by 5% yearly.  That 5% is not balanced by wage increases.  Nope.  And everything goes up, even your utility expenses, you see, they need to grow by that 5%, too.  As a result, people aren't making babies.  I can remember when a single income was enough, now it doesn't come close.  Maybe corporations shouldn't be so greedy.

    1. In other words, you're telling us you don't cook with an open flame.

  2. I'm not sure I ever gave a thought to the cost of having babies but I sure as heck gave thought to how much freedom I would lose. Still, they were worth it but I definitely understand more women not wanting to go the "married with children" route!

    1. The normal used to be 'get married and have kids,' however, that idea is now only popular with certain groups.

  3. That's the basic underlying flaw with capitalism: How can there be infinite growth on a finite planet? I've never heard any business person address it.

    1. You haven't heard it because they can't, continual growth is unsustainable.

  4. I have names for all our pets that are different from their "given" names.
Ozzo has morphed into Ozzoley or Ozzo-Lee-Trozzo.
Tuxedo has morphed into Most Handsome Man.
MaxGoldberg has become G or Maxine.
Consuelo got the biggest change from me as she now answers to either Squee or Miss Squiddle.

  6. Yum! Love cobbler.
And I always change the pet's names. Lulu is Lucifer and Riley is RiRi. They both come when I call them because they think I'll give them treats.
And did the straights realize that having babies is expensive? Who knew?

    XOXO

  7. That cobbler looks downright scrumptious! Even though it's the cakey kind instead of pie, I'd eat the whole thing. Hot, with ice cream.
My oven is officially closed for the summer.
Pet names? My Bella (she came with that name) is now Bella-boo or just Boo-Boo. Cujo is Cuj or Cujaroo.
Balder Half is Fudge Muffin, but we won't go there.

    1. Sadly, my oven's always open. And Fudge Muffin? I'm afraid that's self explanatory.

  8. I think those are just two of the reasons we are having less children. Add in the fact more men don't want to get married and the women who are waiting till the get older to marry are finding out they have lost their marketability.

    1. It's not only men who don't want to get married, and marriage is itself a fading institution.
