Bluntness

I've also been told I have little tact, so if this offends you simply ride on.

Eat it

Okay, so is everybody resting today?  I mean it is Sunday after all.  I can remember Blue Laws here in Pennsylvania.   Blue Laws you ask... well, there was a time when religion in this dictated Sunday was supposed to be a day of rest.  Stores were closed.  Even grocery stores.  Business's were closed so employees could go to church.  There were no such things as Convenience stores, no 7-11's, or Stop & Go's, or whatever you call them.  If you ran out of milk, you did without.  Movie theaters were open, but if you were like my Mom you never went.  She considered going to the movies on Sunday a sin.  There was nothing wrong with sitting on your sofa watching cable TV, but plunking down your hard earned 35 cents to see a movie was sinful.  (That's right, when I was much younger, kids paid 35 cents to go to the movies).  There are some who dream of bringing those days back as a way of controlling the population.  They want to dictate what is good and what is bad.  Remember, give them an inch and they'll take a mile out of your life.
And, of course, it was only a matter of time before one of the dog's Christmas toys succumbed.  Every year I try and pick which one will fail to survive the first week.  This year, I thought the T-Rex was going to bite the bullet early, of course I also thought it was going to be their favorite.  I was wrong on both counts.  This year that infamy goes to... the inch worm.

Now, I'll admit he doesn't quite look like and inch worm, rather his appearance is much more akin to dino cycling socks.

Needless to say, the dogs have pulled the worm's plastic innards out, the parts that have the squeaky, noisemaker.  That plastic thing is already in the trash.  The worm's outer skin will be there soon, other wise Biggie will eat it.  I'll throw it out before it gets swallowed.  This is exactly what we need to do with those groups who want to limit what we can do on Sundays.  Just look them in the eye and say:

That's right, just tell them to eat it... and then wait for them to regurgitate.

    1. There is no going back. Those who work part-time jobs to supplement their income couldn't afford to live.

  2. I remember those blue laws too. Certain parts of Jersey still have them, and I have to say out employees at those store are happy to have a regular days off. I sometimes wish we still had them, so people in retail and service could have a regular day off.

Here in this country we've become so work driven, and sadly, many don't see or enjoy what's around us, or get out and live. Since Iv'e been traveling aboard more, it's opened my eyes a lot. Hell, Im not opposed to everything closing between Christmas and new years like in parts of Europe.

    1. We've become work driven because everything is so freaking expensive. In the past year my grocery bill has gone by $20 a week.

  3. We still have blue laws here in Dumfuck, South Carolina. No alcohol sales on Sunday. Actually, a couple of years ago they approved restaurant sales of it on Sunday, but no retail stores can sell it. How stupid is that? You can drive to a restaurant, get wasted, and drive home, but you can't buy a bottle of wine to enjoy at home and off the roads. 🙄

    1. It's their confused Christian ethic and their need to control.

  4. For the most part Sundays are still CLOSED here in France and while I found it difficult at first you soon get used to it. I don't see it as such a bad thing anymore because I couldn't for the life of me see going to the mall on a Sunday! I guess it's what you're used to isn't it!

    1. I see it more as a convenience than anything else for people like me who don't really have fixed schedules. I might have off on a Tuesday, and a Sunday, and then work for six days in a row. I really hate shopping in the evening.

  5. Having been born and raised in the US, I left years ago...thanks goodness, still can't believe trump is president.... and now live in Amsterdam. The way of life is so much more enjoyable here. I agree with the said comment above. It took some getting used to, but now love nothing being opened on Sunday, and the hours of things are by no means open as long as in the US. We enjoy times with family and friends much more.

    1. Thanks for commenting! American Capitalism dictates we work as many hours as possible so corporations earn as much as possible. Sadly, those easy days are gone for us in this country.

  7. OMG I had forgotten that about PA. When I lived in Pittsburgh liquor stores being closed early Sunday was a surprise. Also, that you needed to go to a liquor store to buy booze. Funny little xtianists.
And of course the doggies were gonna do away with the toys! LOL Wild little things.

    XOXO
